The Sawtooth landscape, local material from the forests, and rugged 4-season mountain weather have shaped the design of Outback Yurts.
The Outback Yurt design originates from the rigors of the Sawtooth Mountain landscape and its use as a mountain dwelling. The Outback Yurt is unsurpassed to stand up to harsh winters of big snow and wind as well as intense sunshine and summer rainy cloudbursts.
Unique in design, the Outback Yurt incorporates a roof system handcrafted with local hand-peeled lodgepole pine, uniquely aesthetic, and adds to the custom handmade character not found in other production-based yurt designs. Other features unique to its design are octagonal skylights, custom windows and doors which distinguish these yurts from others.
Outback Yurts have been most commonly used as remote mountain huts, comfortable dwellings in remote locations, as well as guesthouses, and design studios. Over the years, they are now located as far north as the Selkirks of British Columbia, the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, as well as throughout the Rocky Mtn. states and Pacific Northwest.
